Wanna hear a sad song? Throughout the country (and even here in the “Live Music Capital of the World”), public schools are actually eliminating music programs. No band, no choir, no place for dreams to begin. Mission Statement Grounded in Music’s sole mission is to leverage the power of music to transform young lives by creating self-confidence, opportunity and hope. Grounded in Music works with underprivileged youth to expose kids to music starting in grade four by providing music, by providing music instruction, exposure to nationally known musicians, concerts, backstage passes, and scholarships. This early introduction can lead to many benefits. Studies show that young children who develop rhythm skills perform better academically in early school years and that music students score higher on their SAT’s in both verbal and math, regardless of socio-economic background. Since its inception, Grounded in Music has served over 500 underprivileged children through programming at the Boys and Girls Clubs. Launched in 2007 in Austin, Texas, Grounded in Music is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation founded by Austin music industry professional Joseph Stallone, Partner at Oaks, Hartline & Daly LLP and Jeff Kreinik, VP of Live Entertainment at StreetTeam. The advisory board currently consists of Austin Community College Music Business, Performance + Tecnology Department Chair Geoffrey Schulman; Juice Consulting President and Founder, Heather Wagner Reed; Orb Recording Studio Owner & Blue October group member, Matt Noveskey; Attorney at Oaks, Hartline & Daly LLP, Andrea Villarreal; Holtzman Partners - CPA/ Internal Controls Manager, Natalie Blahuta and Doghouse Studios Owner/Operator and Sound Designer, SAHAREM, Austin Hegarty.
